Creating Search Engine Friendly Blog Posts Part 1

Creating Search Engine Friendly Blog Posts

Blogging is one way to get your business or products in the top of the search engines.  How many times have you heard that line?  How many times have you said to yourself, ok, if that’s true how come I am not up there?  That’s what I am hoping to help you with today.

Let’s start off by looking at the posted article on your blog.  You have your headline which is what brings folks to your site.  Then you have the actual body or content of your article.  In the body you may have some graphics and you may have some hyperlinks, either linking to your other article in your site or to a product or affiliate page.  That’s basically your posted article.  Let take a look at the headline and the body in more detail.

The Headline

When writing the headline you of course want to make it say something that sparks the interest of your readers or potential readers.  For instance when I wrote the headline to this article, my initial thought was I would get people who blog but are frustrated because they do not rank in the search engines.  So now we have established that we have to make a catchy headline to spark interest.  Easy enough!  But we also want to create a headline that has the main keyword or keyword phrase in it as well.  If possible we also want our main keyword phrase as close to the front of our headline as possible.  However, please keep in mind that this is not always possible.

After you have created a killer headline, go to Google and search for your headline.  See what types of sites appear in the results.  Take a good look at your headline as well.  A lot of times we all tend to make the first letter of each word in the headline Upper Case.  Take a look at my headline, each word begins with an upper case letter.  As I am writing this post, I have searched Google for my headline.  The results are 404,000 sites competing.  However, if you do not upper case each word there’s a little over 476,000 sites competing.

Take a minute let the paragraph above sink in.  Go back and re-read it, then type in the two different headlines.  This is vey important if you are trying to compete for specific products and industries.  How will your potential client search for your business or product?  Keep this in mind when creating your headline.  Stay tuned for Part 2 of this article where we will be discussing the anatomy of the Body of your article.
