WEB 2.0 Social Bookmarking, are you using it correctly? Part Two
In part one we talked about the concept and benefits of WEB 2.0 Social Bookmarking. We left off when we told you how HUGE it is when you reach the first page of one of the more popular social sites like Technorati, Digg, Netscape and Stumble Upon. So today we are going to start off with the type of traffic you can expect when you do reach the first page of the social sites.
I know that there are some folks out there that would say, “big deal. What good is traffic when it’s not targeted?” By learning what type of articles do better for each site, you can and will be able to better target the traffic that comes from the social sites that you use. The main point is if you can get thousands coming to your site and you have good content. Some will come back, some will subscribe to your RSS feed, newsletters and if you have a site where you sell product they will come back and purchase from you.
If you are like most people you are trying to maximize your WEB 2.0 Social Bookmarking for yourself. You post your latest article to your bog. Then you click on your article to make sure that the proper page is displayed for your newest article. You then start to click away at all the social site icons you have on your tool bar. Heck everyone tells you that you can vote on yourself one time. THIS IS WHERE YOUR PROBLEMS BEGIN!
It is true that you can vote on yourself one time. So our human nature or self centeredness kicks in and all you worry about is making sure to get your latest article posted to your blog and vote on yourself on every social site you can think of. It works initially, then one day you find the ever dreaded email telling you that have been banned from your favorite social site. You ask yourself “what happened?” All the so called “gurus” said you could vote for yourself, so that what I did.
Finally, we are to meat and potatoes of this article. How to properly use WEB 2.0 Social Bookmarking. Remember this is called social bookmarking not self bookmarking. The so called “gurus” are correct when they say that you can vote for yourself. I do not proclaim to be one of those gurus, but I do highly recommend that you submit all of your articles to social sites. However, the gurus fail to explain the fact that you should also be bookmarking other site as well. The social sites that you use will see your profile and the type of sites and articles you are bookmarking. What do you think will happen after you have about 30 or so bookmarks and they are all yours? Or let’s say you have just found new site and you start bookmarking all your articles at about 15 seconds apart? You will look like a spammer to these sites. So the next step would be to ban you from the sites.
So lets Digg a little further into this WEB 2.0 Social bookmakring stuff. What sites should you be bookmarking? Any sites that you read or find interesting. Any sites where you read a killer article, like the one you’re reading now. Sites you use to learn from, like the one you’re at right now. We all spend a certain amount of time surfing during the week.
Here’s an easy way to make sure you won’t be seen as a spammer on the social sites. Pick two or three days a week where you will surf for about an hour. Pick the topics of the sites you want to surf. Before you start surfing put a sticky note on the corner of your monitor that says BOOKMARK. This way you won’t forget that this is your social bookmarking task for the week. It is very easy to get distracted when you are reading good stuff. You will start leaving comments, emailing friends, etc. Before you get tempted to doing this, make sute that you bookmark the site. An easy way to do this would be to use Onlywire. You can learn more about using Only wire by reading the article How to Create 19 one way backlinks in one hour posted on this site.
You may be asking yourself why would I do this for someone else? That’s what WEB 2.0 Internet Marketing is all about. Helping each other to build content, vote on good content so that others can enjoy it as well. So let’s all get into the WEB 2.0 Internet Marketing mode and start helping each other out when we find some good articles.
Make sure you pick at least two Bookmarking Surfing Sessions a week. After you start doing this for about a month it will become a habit and the WEB 2.0 Social Bookmarking will become second nature and you will no longer have to worry about the Social Bookmarking tasks for the week,
It only makes sense that while surfing you start bookmarking other sites you frequent or new sites you discover and want to go back to. The sites will be placed in your profile so that you will always have easy access to the sites you have bookmarked. Some of them will even organize them for you. To re-cap make sure to submit your posted articles to Social bookmarking sites, and start doing your WEB 2.0 Bookmarking task for the week. Until next time…..
