Will WEB 2.0 make your static web site Extinct to the search engines?

Posted by admin

This is a question that I have been asking myself since I started my site. I even posted the same question on StartupNation another social site I found the past couple of weeks which has a page rank of 5. I received a lot of different answers. They ranged from as long as you use SEO it doesn’t matter to libraries still have books and it was predicted a long time ago that the books would be extinct.

extinct.jpgI don’t know if you have noticed but when I do any kind of searches on Google, no matter what I am searching for, the first page is usually full of blog sites. For instance, try a keyword search for Web Design, the entire first page of results that are in the natural listing are all blogs. I could go on and on with a list of keywords but I’ll just stop for now.

The point is whether you like it or not, blogs are taking over the search engines. Where do most people go to do their research? Google. Google loves blogs so if you don’t jump on the blog train soon, your online customers will be using your competition who has.

I talk to people everyday about WEB 2.0 Internet Marketing and I have found that most of them fit into 4 different categories.

  1. People who have never heard of WEB 2.0 Internet Marketing.
  2. People who have heard of WEB 2.0 Internet Marketing.
  3. People who know that WEB 2.0 Internet Marketing is powerful they just don’t know what it entails.
  4. People who think that as long as you stuff your meta-tags with keywords all it takes is time to move up in the search engines.

The first two groups of people are usually people who want to take advantage of the internet, they just don’t know what they need. They usually want to start right away until they talk to a friend or relative who belongs to the fourth group. What usually happens is that their friend or relative will tell them it takes 4-6 months before you can expect to have any type of placement on Google. After the 4-6 month time frame they call me and within 30-60 days they are realizing great placement on Google, due to WEB 2.0 Strategies and Techniques.

Group number 3 they are the easiest to talk to, because they already realize that they need to jump on the blog wagon and use WEB 2.0 Internet Marketing to the fullest. All they need is a little guidance and training and they become self sufficient with all their WEB 2.0 Strategies and Techniques.

The last group I like to call “old school”. These are the folks that still believe they can stuff a bunch of key words into the met-tags section create a couple of web sites to creates links from and wait. Yup, that’s right wait for 4-6 months until Google finally get’s around to indexing them. So what happens to the client who puts their faith into the “old schoolers” of the internet? The clients end up having to pay the “old schoolers” a boat load of money and after 4-6 months they are actually worse off then when they started. Why worse off? Because they could have already built their reputation as a authority in their industry by using WEB 2.0 Internet Marketing to the fullest.

News Flash: if you have a static web site and it is on the first page of Google you have two choices. One, do nothing and watch your first page placement go away. Your second choice and the best choice is to start a blog today about your industry. Start writing good content for readers of your industry. You don’t have to give away all of your tips and techniques, but give them something to come back for. You will see that in a matter of 30-60 days, if done properly your blog will be near or past your current first page placement.

It’s entirely up to you whether or not your web site becomes extinct. Make the right decision for your business and start your blog today! If you are not sure how to create a blog give us a call at Arsenal Marketing or send us an email at info@arsenalmarketing.com we would be more than happy to help you with all of your WEB 2.0 needs.

I think it depends on the topic, too. “Web design” used as an example by the previous commenter is likely to have a strong group of blogs. Other topics might be more likely to fit into regular content sites. I personally don’t find that many blogs in Google, compared to other sites.

    Colin,
    Thanks for the comment.

You may be correct as of today. But WEB 2.0 is still in the infancy stage. As more people start to use blogs and be creative at how they use them, it’s only a matter of time before the static web sites are extinct in the natural listings.

That’s the whole point to this article. Take the example I used for Web site design. I talk to these types of companies on a daily basis 95% of them don’t even know what a blog is never mind WEB 2.0 internet marketing.

Thanks again for your comment. We welcome all comments whether good or bad and whether or not you agree or disagree.

I think not all of businesses should have their own blogs. For example Apple with its iPhone has thousands of fan blogs.

    William,
Thanks for commenting on our blog!

There seems to be a lot of folks who would agree with you! However, there are so many benefits to having a blog, that in my opinion every company should have one.
